Piassava petal fruit bowl

This collection was developed alongside the community of Barcelos, using Piassava and Buriti, fibers, derived from native Palm trees. The fibers are soaked in mud for four days to achieve the basket’s deep organic color.

This ongoing project empowers women from the ethnic goups of Tariano, Tukano, Baniwa, Baré, Arapaço, Werequena and Tuyuca.   It helped them rescue their cultural heritage and infused a new life in their creations.  

Due to the handmade nature of these baskets, no two pieces are exactly alike, and the color varies slightly between each piece.
