The Carapuça chair is inspired after the “Cangaço”, the early 20th century local Robin Hood-like resistance movement, one of the most controversial phenomena in Brazil’s history.
The chair takes the characteristic of these cangaceiros’ hats, which were artfully made and who became the greatest symbol of this movement and was instantly recognizable.
The hats were made up of folded flaps and adorned with “magic” symbols, which fulfilled not only an aesthetic function, but also evoked protection and power.
